Article 0 is a non-governmental transgender rights organization based in Kherson, Ukraine. Overnight the war has displaced every member of our team and we have lost everything — our savings, our community center, and our peace.
Those of us who were able to evacuate from Kherson are now seeking refuge in neighboring countries. Those of us that remained are living day by day in search of safety.
Your donations will help us get to safety and cover essentials like food and medicine. Despite the circumstances, we remain united and strong thanks to your support and solidarity.

We are the activists representing Kherson Transgender Center. For the past two years we’ve been helping trans people with finding healthcare providers, sharing the information, and supporting the community. We’ve been fighting for their right to life. We opened a community center welcoming anyone who needed support.
Recently something really bad happened and our country got invaded. As a result many of us decided to escape. We found some financial aid to help us to get to the border, and now we hope to cross it.
The current situation is complicated. We had to use all our funds. Now we don’t know what to expect and how to support those who weren’t able to leave and are still in Kherson. At the same time we still believe that only together we can handle this situation.

Протягом двох останніх років ми допомагали трансгендерним людям з пошуком лікарів, супроводом інформацією, працювали з суспільством. Ми намагалися виборювати право транс-людей на їх життя. У нас був комьюніті-центр, куди могли прийти всі охочі.
Але сталося страшне: в нашу домівку прийшов ворог. Більша частина з нас вирішила евакуюватися. Ми знайшли гроші, щоб дістатись до кордону, і дуже сподіваємось, що зможемо перетнути його.
Але ситуація складна: на це пішли всі наші накопичення, та ми не знаємо, що з нами буде далі. Ми не знаємо, чи зможемо ми допомогти тим з нас, що залишилися у Херсоні у бомбосховищах. Але ми віримо, що разом ми зможемо подолати усе.

Мы активисты организации трансгендерных людей города Херсон, который на юге Украины. На протяжении двух последних лет мы помогало транс людям с поиском докторов, распространяли информацию и поддерживали сообщество. Мы пытались отстаивать права транс людей на жизнь. У нас был центр, куда могли прийти все кто был заинтересован.
Но случилось что-то ужасное и в наш дом пришел враг. Большая часть из нас решила эвакуироваться. Мы нашли деньги чтобы добраться до границы и очень надеемся что сможем ее пересечь.
Но ситуация очень тяжёлая. На это пошли все наши сбережения и мы не знаем что с нами будет дальше. Мы не знаем сможем ли помогать тем из нас кто остался в Херсоне. Но мы верим что вместе мы сможем справится с этим.
About Article 0 Prior to the war
Article 0 is a non-governmental organization based in Kherson, Ukraine that advocates for the rights of transgender people in the region and throughout country. Article 0 was formed in late 2019 and is composed of a diverse team of activists, organizers, psychologists, and more.
Prior to the war we provided a wide range of services including an open-access community center in Kherson, connections to medical and mental health specialists, and a creative artist support network. In collaboration with other LGBTQ+ organizations we also worked to advance the legal and civil landscape in Ukraine to be more inclusive of transgender individuals.
Overnight, our entire team has been displaced as a result of the war — many of our members have been forced to seek refuge in neighboring countries while others have remained in Ukraine. Though the circumstances for our members are dire and we may not be together physically, we are strongly united by our mission to help transgender and queer individuals in Ukraine live better lives. With your support, we will help transgender / queer individuals in Ukraine reach safety. Soon we also hope to rebuild our community in Kherson and continue our advocacy and support work.
Kherson Community Center
Prior to the war, our community center in Kherson was open to all transgender / queer individuals in need of support.
We routinely held community workshops, provided basic essentials such as food and toiletries to our members, and organized volunteer opportunities.
Medical & Mental Health Resources
Ensuring the general physical and mental health of our members is at the core of Article 0’s mission.
We provide direct connections to medical and mental health specialists, including doctors who can assist members considering HRT treatment. We plan to continue this work when we are able to.
Legal Advocacy
Advancing the legal and civil landscape in Ukraine to benefit transgender people is a key component of our work.
In collaboration with other LGBTQ+ organizations in the country, before the start of the war we advocated for the changing of laws and social norms to be more inclusive of transgender people.
